KLNGBLDR (from the german word “Klangbilder”: sound characteristics) is a project in the fields of experimental photography and cross sensory perception. It visualizes the volume in the moment of a photo within the image. The volume is being captured and manipulates the exposure time. Loud situations will generate bright images, moments of silence lead to darker photos. The neutral point where the photo remains “normal” is the volume of a conversation in a quiet environment (50 - 60 dB(A)).
To generate those images a software application for mobile devices and an indicator tool for the use with normal cameras were created. The output of the system can be used as a visualization of the volume for longer periods. By scaling down the images the volume remains visible and the images can be transformed into info-graphic without having to deal with numbers and written data. The declared objective is to collect a large amount of these images in order to see trends and patterns.
An ebook version of the documentation in german language is available here.
